(1) Tourist rest houses / accommodation facility
Development of accommodation facilities in key tourist destinations of Kumaon
Started in 1976, Pioneering role of Nigam in terms of taking initiatives for infrastructure development in key destinations, this led to participation by private parties during subsequent years for setting hotels, amenities etc. Hence KMVN has played the role of catalyst.

(2) Package tours/ trekking tours/Yatra /Adventure Tourism
Tourism trade promotion through utilisation of resources and expertise available with Nigam
1985, Conduct of Kailash Mansrover & other Yatras by Nigam has added to "brand image" of KMVN and also met requirements of pilgrims.

(3) Holiday camps
Local tourism trade promotion and support to local economy.
1985. Presently scale of activity is limited; future plans for thrust in this area under consideration.

(4) Amusement/ recreation projects (Ropeway, Eco-garden)
Leveraging resources available for utilisation and diversification of tourism activities.
Pioneering role at present in Kumaon; will lead to participation by private players.


1) Distribution of Cooking Gas
To make better energy resources available to people of Kumaon leading to preservation of forest and woods
Started in 1976, Once a pioneering role by Nigam; now entry of private parties has started in a limited way. This activity continues to be useful and important.

2) Marketing of fruits & herbs
To make avenues available to local producers for getting better returns on their produce.
Started in 1981, this is specialised activity and has focused on less developed regions

(3) Operating Petrol Pump and Service Station
To make facilities available for tourists in coming in Kumaon; started as a pioneering role of Nigam
Started in 1980. Administrative convenience and scope for enhanced operations with the car park complex that is in adjacent area.

(4) Mining Building material (Boulder-Bajri)
To monitor exploitation of mineral resources as per plans & to monitor payment to labours as per norms set by Govt.
Started in 1976. Led to local employment generation and economic returns to the regional economy; but limited scale of operations.-Updated mining policy essential for future planning



(1) Financial support in form of assisted, joint & subsidiary industrial projects
To assist in promotion of industries(as mandated) by providing financial support involving local entrepreneurs.
1982, Some success stories e.g. Plants Agro and IMPCL but this is not area of long term competency for KMVN. Such activity is perhaps more appropriate for being undertaken by specialised financial industry promotion agency.

(2) Direct management of industrial units
To fulfill need of department(forests department of the State) by providing a quality product and simultaneously promote local industrial enterprise based on local materials
1977, Long terms viability requires recognition of government support/assistance (e.g. long term procurement contract, pricing arrangements etc.)


(1) Construction of tourist bungalows, government buildings and other departmental works and maintenance works.
To assist in local infrastructure development in Kumaon for promotion of tourist activity
1976, Focus has been on construction of TRC's and construction works as per government sanctions.
